A Christmas Memory - Truman Capote I love Capote's ability to draw the reader into his stories through his visual writing style. I felt Buddy's joy in the anticipation of making the fruitcakes with his elderly cousin... collecting the pecans, counting and recounting every penny they saved that year to buy the ingredients, especially the hard to get whiskey, which can only be bought on the sly from Mr. Haha Jones' fish-fry and dancing café by the river. The interaction between Buddy and his cousin with Mr. Haha are a hoot!

The story has its fun moments, but also touches on sadness and loss. There are some autobiographical elements in it. A Christmas Memory is definitely a good read.
